seriously i just dont understand the thought process behind what people do at xmas and the holiday season.
have you ever noticed how negative and stressed out people are?
i come into contact with a lot of people at work and as a job requirement i have to make small talk with them while taking care of their transactions and services.

Christmas has always been an excellent part of my life and that of my family. When I first started dating my ex wife she had an occaion to bring ger sister and fiance over to our house on Christmas eve. The sister and fiance were baptized and were stranded in our area due to a severe winter strom. Even they enjoyed the warmth and spirit which flowed through our home that beautiful evening. It actually caused them to seriously question what they had learned since they were both "born into the truth".
That same spirit of love and family and reflection of Jesus and his birth, life and sacrifice for humankind has always been present in my family at Christmas time. I can't speak for others who get stressed or focus on things other than family but there are so many people out there in the world who feel the same as I do and grew up that way. I think you are being exposed to a very narrow view of Christmas.
that is what i said to those evil krispy kreme donuts tonight at the grocery store.
they continued to beckon me.... eeeeeeeeat meeeee...... eeeeeeeeeat meeeeeeee .
they persisted in their call to me... relentless and soooo alluring.
I was lucky enough to be living close to the very first Krispy Kreme donut store opened in Canada about 3 or so years ago. People went crazy for them here right away. They had to have a cop directing traffic in and out of their parking lot for weeks. Now they sell them individually and in pre-packaged boxes at the gas station down on the corner from where I live.
They are dangerously good.
for me it would be smoking, drinking, certain movies/tv shows and my favourite music (which includes eminem :p)
In my case it would not be a returning but rather a first time conversion. I owuld have to say the hardest thing to give up would be common sense.
i know there's no such word as "witnessy" but this can be a fun thread.
"upbuilding"
.
ok...we have been stocking up our liquor bar....and i saw this whisky: macnaughton for super cheap.....................(it says it is a canadian whiskey...but don't believe it........i know canadian whiskey's...this doesn't qualify).
don't buy it...don't go there...................... codeblue
As in Jack Daniels V.S.O.P. cough syrup?
Exactly why it is so good on a cold winters night
brobennett, you made this comment in another post:.
breeding pedophiles are more common in other religions since they are kept in circulation and not taken out of the religion.
by the way, brobennett, do you have kids?.
BroBennett I think you are living proof that the silentlambs.com website is not propoganda.
i have seen quite a few posts from many ex-jw women about how unhappy they were about male domination in congregation.
was it really that bad?
when i was still a jw, no one ever told me anything to that effect.
As much as I can't understand how any self respecting women in today's civilized society could live believing the sexist nonsense in the JW faith, I do not understand how any self respecting male could either.
i was a witness for over forty years and for most of that time the "new world" "paradise" was not a place i ever wanted to live in.. there are many aspects of life in the 21st century that are great and i wouldn't want to give up.
tv, internet, blues/jazz clubs etc etc.. i may be shallow.
but there were other better reasons millions of people would have gone, wiped out by god: this never sat easy with me.. i told my elder father that i wouldn't want to live five minutes in god's new system, knowing that people i loved, had been killed by god because they didn't love him in the way he wanted.. just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how i really feel about my ex religion.. does a paradise earth as jw's depict appeal to you?
Hmm what would it be like?
If it was a paradise with no death or disease and everyone happy that would be great. Who wouldn't want that you would have to be nuts not to - sign me up!
On the other hand, iIf it were a JW place where I was forced to worship a being which just finished murdering billions of people because they used words like "lucky" instead of "fortunate" then no thanks. That would be like worshipping Hitler.
i told my parents i dont believe in god, i dont believe in all this mystical stuff it seems like magic to me.
i like science better, i believe in the big bang, and evolution.
my keeps asking for proof, he says he has the bible.
On a related topic of sorts, I recall years ago (mid 1980s) discussing with some JWs about timeline and creation vs. biblical forcasts of Armaggedon and the JWs were taking the position that the world was a little over 6000 years old. I asked them how they accounted for the dinosaurs which roamed the planet millions of years ago. Their explanation was "How do we know that the aren't only 6000 years old?" I responded by explaining to them about carbon dating. Of course they had to get the answer because they knew that an answer existed somewhere, it's just that they did not know it (you know the old line).
Well they did eventually get back to me. Their explanation as handed down by the wise elders was that "Dinosaurs never actually existed and it was Satan who put the bones in the ground to deceive the world".
